Canvas sale

At Michael's 50% off!!  it is a good way to bring in color!!  I purchased two bottles of red paint for .99 cents each and voila!!  (the kid is on sale too..... cheap..... just kidding he is really very expensive♥)

Tuna wonton inspired wall

While finishing up our kitchen remodel we were left with a fridge / freezer and side cabinets standing naked in the middle of the room.......
THEN it came to me (actually I was at Houlihan's eating tuna wontons and noticed their wood paneling on the walls)..... SO taking ALL the design credit I mentioned this idea to my husband and we came up with this

we painted the wall black and then staggered 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, and 1x6's and stained them to match the cabinets.
Suddenly I have a craving for tuna......

Lampshade or pendant made from woven wood veneer for under 20 bucks !

Earlier I told a friend I was building a lampshade out of wood veneer and  she gave me a look I am all too familiar with, I get it alot, it is a what in the ??????????  look.    Well here it is.  (don't mind my dirty dishes in the dishwasher in the background)

For this project I used
construction grade adhesive and 3 packages of veneer banding from Menards
4 wreath forms and dowels that fit into the holes on the wreath form from Michaels craft store
and an old lamp hanger from a lampshade I demolished.

I started by glueing the dowels in place and weaving the veneer through the dowels......I used scissor to cut the veneer then fastened the ends to each other with hot glue

I cut the shade hanger in three places and using a hammer I pounded it and bent and twisted it until it was flat (I have man hands so this was easy)
then I placed the wreath form on, glued the dowels,  and then glued the lamp bracket on top of that.

Finally I glued the last wreath form on top and  THERE IT IS! ♥

This lamp is driving me crazy..........

I wanted to do something fabulous with this $5 lamp I found but I am having issues.........

First I spray painted the base and tried to freehand the shade... but the writing was bleeding on the fabric shade and it ended up looking terrible....... so here I go again with the spray paint ....  I painted the shade.... we will see what tomorrow brings but I have an idea......... stay tuned.

If spray paint were a man i would marry it

I love spray paint and I want to use it on everything.... ( I wonder if it would cover my grays) ....anyway here was a 15 minute lil spray paint job I did today. This was my sons it was red and we are revamping his room right now so we had to change this a bit, I taped off the seat and did a very bad prime job if I might say so myself.....  watch for this little chair in David's room makeover coming son!

He insisted that George sit in this picture...... George has no eyes..... don't ask
.

I made the sunburst mirror out of door shims!

Decorate with wheatgrass! Then juice it.... dual purpose decorating.

This is from last thanksgiving but wheatgrass is the perfect spring decoration right??

Camp Crazy....

That is what I called our house two years ago when we moved our three boys and a dog into a house with NO KITCHEN and we all had to sleep in the family room downstairs because we were refinishing all the bedrooms..... yes camp crazy just about sums it up.  But it was worth it, after gutting everything and repairing replacing and refinishing all the hardwood ourselves we started on the cabinets
We built concrete counters click here to see that tutorial.

It was worth all the sweat and tears...... mostly tears :-)

Concrete countertops

Ok so you do not want to have to give your first born for new counters..... try concrete!  We did this project about two years ago and I did not think I would be blogging about it so OF COURSE I do not have pictures but I can tell you if you take your time and build your forms right you should have no problems!
1) build form out of melamine board (shiny side against the concrete) the reason for this is that the melamine will "finish" the concrete so you don't have to.... it will give it a smooth finish.... that being said you have to build your counter upside down.
2) use a latex silicon to seal all the corners.
3) mix concrete and pur it in to the mold..... then vibrate the forms to get all the air bubbles out, we used a small electric hand saw that vibrates and just held it right to the underneath and sides of the form
4) let it dry...... and say a few prayers :-)
here it is finished we made the sides also.

It was not terribly hard but not easy .......  I would encourage you to try it!!

When you are angry how time flies....

I bought the desk,

stripped it,
             sanded it,
                          stained it
and put the pedestal sink top ( that I got for $29 schmackers at Home Depot )  all in one weekend.......... I was mad and I work like a MANIAC when I am mad........ it just occurred to me that maybe this is why my Husband always tries to upset me..... :-)
